Obituary of Steven Schwartz
Steven Schwartz, age 75, of Concord, CA, peacefully passed away on August 28, 2022 at home under Hospice care. Steve suffered from a spinal cord injury after an accident that happened in January and he endured many complications over the past several months. Steve was born on May 1, 1947 to Isidore (Joe) and Amelia (Mollye) in Cincinnati, Ohio. After Steve graduated from Woodward High School in 1965, he went on to get his Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Cincinnati. Steve had two sons, Brian and Eric, with his first wife, Debby Holly. His first job was with Coopers & Lybrand in Cincinnati. In 1976, he married Barb Zink and they relocated to Amarillo, Texas with Mead Containers where Steve was the Plant Controller. After two years in Texas, Steve took a job with Crown Zellerbach at the box plant in Carol Stream, Illinois where his daughter Erin was born. He then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1981 and lived there for 41 years. He moved from the box business in 1985 to the Pacific Stock Exchange and then finished his career at Fair Trade USA. He retired in 2013. Steve had a true love for softball and shared that love with his son Brian. The two of them played together for many years. Steve was always proud of the way that Brian played and loved sharing the field with him. When Steve turned 50, he joined a Senior Softball team and got to travel all over the country to play. He enjoyed playing for many different teams over the span of 20 years. In 2017 he was introduced to the game of pickleball when his longtime friend came to visit. He was determined to master the game and was fortunate to have 14 courts five minutes from home where he was able to play several times a week. In 2018 he and Barb started spending the winters in Mesa, Arizona. There he was able to play softball and pickleball. He and Barb thoroughly enjoyed the “good” life there with many great friends. Steve was predeceased by his parents Joe and Mollye and two brothers, Barry and Harvey. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barb, two sons, Brian and Eric, and his daughter Erin Stacey (Morgan). He was always bragging about the fact that he had six grandsons and was very proud of them – Mason, Isaac, Seth and Lucas Schwartz and Evan and Owen Stacey. A private memorial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests making a donation to Hospice East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Avenue, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
