OBITUARY

Aileen Jeanette Chaney

May 25, 1928July 27, 2020

Aileen Chaney, age 92, passed away from congestive heart failure on July 27, 2020, with her daughter by her side. She will be dearly missed by her 3 children, Kathryn M. Carlson, Janet L. Selby and Duane W. Chaney, Jr., 8 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Aileen was born on May 25th, 1928 in San Francisco, CA, to parents Marie and Sven Sterner. Aileen grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended Burlingame High School, where she met her future husband, Duane Chaney. They were married in 1947 and had 3 children: Kathy, Jan, and Duane Jr. Duane was a carpenter during the first several years of their marriage; he later joined his father in their family printing business. Aileen worked there as an office manager and bookkeeper once the children were in school. It truly was a family business, since Grandfather, parents, and kids all worked there together throughout the years.

Aileen and Duane later moved from the Bay Area to Lake Almanor, CA, which they both loved dearly. Due to Duane’s declining health, they moved to Valley Springs, CA, where Duane passed away in 2003. Aileen eventually moved to Ione, CA to be closer to her daughters.

Aileen loved to entertain and get together with friends. She frequently embarked on local and overnight bus trips, as well as cruises with her friends. She was also an avid animal lover, who donated to animal rescue organizations regularly and taught her children that a commitment to a pet is for life. She loved to read, especially mysteries, and almost always had a book nearby. Aileen also enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and embroidery.

Due to pandemic restrictions, a celebration of Aileen’s long and wonderful life will be scheduled at a later date. If you would like to make a donation in her memory, please consider the following charities:
