OBITUARY
David Christopher Castorena
April 30, 1939 – March 11, 2023

David Christopher Castorena, a retired banking professional, died unexpectedly on March 11, 2023, at the age of 83. David was the loving son of Matilde Castorena and Sam Moore of Colusa, California. David is survived by his family; sisters Marianna Rivera (Victor) of Sacramento, Lusha Mross of Santa Cruz; brothers Xavier Castorena (Maria) of Sacramento, and Paul Olivarez of Colusa. He is predeceased by his mother Matilde Castorena, brother Esteban Castorena, and his cuate Dolores Weil. He is also survived by his nieces Itzia (Matt) Rivera, Ibyang (Erik) Rivera, Xochitl (Mathuri) Rivera, Sohnya (Tim) Castorena, Alycia Autumn, Nya Chambers; nephews Alejandro Rivera, Pavy Olivarez, Xavier (Noelle) Tarango-Castorena, Xalick (Clarissa) Castorena; and godson Jeff (Layla) Weil. He left behind Hilda Castorena, his beloved Shih Tzu.
David was born and educated in Colusa, California. He was the first in his family to graduate from college, completing his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Sacramento State College in 1962. After college, David served in the Air Force Reserve.
David began his career in real estate appraisals at the Sacramento County Assessor’s Office as an Associate Real Estate Appraiser (13 years) and spent 7 years as an independent appraiser. He later moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and served as Vice President at various banking institutions, including Bank of America and Washington Mutual, overseeing all commercial real estate appraisals.
David was well traveled; traveling to Europe, Latin America, and Africa. David was a great cook; he loved steaks, Italian and Mexican food, fine wine, and enjoyed a good gin and tonic. He was also an avid reader, appreciated art and sculpture, loved gardening, and was a loving pet owner. Once he returned to Sacramento, he opened his home to family, hosted many family gatherings and appreciated the many visits from his cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nephew. He will be deeply missed.
