Blesilda Velez Vargas Masalaysay

Blesilda Velez Vargas Masalaysay, better known as Bess, was born on August 16, 1958 in the Philippines. She is survived by her husband Alec Masalaysay, daughters Joanelyn Nicole Vargas (Mert S. Contapay, III), Leila Binky Masalaysay (Anthony Gabriel) and Erica Bobbie Masalaysay (Gary del Rosario), grand-daughters Samantha, Kaelyn, Anastasia, Reyna, Devin and Reichel, her fathers Ben Velez and Domingo Vargas, her siblings Gina Velez, Ben Velez, Wowie Lopez and Cynthia Malabed… and all her beloved dogs: Kea, Kiku, Kubo and Kyana. She loves her dogs! When she was young, her time was split between living in San Diego, CA with her parents, Flora and Domingo Vargas and in San Francisco, with her other parents, Effie and Ben Velez. She settled in Northern California and has lived in Vallejo, CA for 38 years. Most of Bess’ careers were with United Airlines and Kaiser Permanente. Bess loves to travel. She retired from United Airlines after working there for over 25 years which enabled her to retain her travel privileges. She was not done with traveling so her final wishes include having her ashes spread in the Pacific Ocean so that she could continue traveling the world. Bess did not want to have a sad and somber funeral service. So in her honor, instead of a funeral, her family will be hosting a Celebration of Life party on August 19, 2023 (time and location: TBA).
